        <link>http://family-tree-builder.myheritage-ltd.qarchive.org</link>
        <description>Family Tree Builder is a brand new, original and free genealogy program. It packs the most innovative features developed for genealogy in the past decade, such as Face Recognition Technology, Visual Data Entry, Immersive 3D Trees and Online Family Tree Publishing.

Visual Data Entry lets you grow your family tree visually. Create a new family tree, or import a GEDCOM file from another program. Print attractive charts, reports and books. Build your family tree in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Russian, or 15 other languages. Enter a family tree in multiple languages. Print bi-lingual charts and reports, great for large family reunions. No other program can do that.

Enjoy the most powerful photo handling in any genealogy program. Associate photos with people, families and facts. Create a virtual cemetery for tombstone photos. Maintain reverse side inscriptions and dedications. Add documents, video files and audio files to your family tree with ease. Use breakthrough Face Recognition Technology. Face Detection finds faces in your photos automatically. Drag a name to any face for quick annotation. Then find more photos of your ancestors; and identify mystery people in your photos thanks to knowledge and photos contributed by other users.

Publish your family tree to the Web in a few mouse clicks - and share it with your family in a private setting. Navigate your family tree in immersive 3D.

Amateur users will appreciate the friendliness and ease of use. Automatic backups ensure you'll never lose your precious data. Advanced users can customize every aspect; maintain multiple names and facts with full source and citation cross-referencing, conduct powerful searches, convert dates between calendar systems, and more.

Best of all, Family Tree Builder is absolutely free, without any ads, spyware or evil-ware. A joy for amateur hobbyists and professional genealogists. Download Family Tree Builder today!</description>

                This is a very nice program. I am still learning to use it, but I like what I see and how easy it is to use.

                Trying out the Family tree builder I find it very easy to use - I especially like the pictures and that one is able to identify and associate persons within the image. I however, lack a very important feature, statistics! Nowhere can I find a way to look at average age, adresses, number of children etc. This is a feature that I find essential and it would not be so difficult to add this feature to the program.

                As a free software this puts others to shame - period. However one of the things I don't
necessarily like is whether or not data input can be simplified. See, for example Family
Tree Maker (2005 is the version I use). There are two kinds of researchers I think -
hobbiests and "historians" (for lack of a better way of putting it. The former want pictures
and pretty interfaces. The latter want simple and quick (tab to tab for data entry boxes)
and a fast rendering and computing system. Now to be clear, I use a mac and I LOVE
intuitive interfaces but when it comes to this, for me, it's about *database* management -
not pretty pictures - I want to enter data first and foremost. And to be fair I've not been
able to play with this that much just yet, so it takes time to re-acclimate one's self to a
new software. But I still keep coming back to **keeping a windows machine** **just** to
do my genealogy work because all the mac programs are "bloated". Again, maybe a
stripped down, fast user, version could be considered - I want to see Father + Mother and
children and marriage ALL on one page - needing to move from page to page is a waste of
time if/when instead all the children could be on one page (again, I have to check your
options more first, so if this criticism is unwarranted, disregard).

Finally - great as it *appears* to be it CRASHES and CRASHES and CRASHES (running Win
XP, Service Pack 3 btw - the computer is out of date admittedly with a 500 Mhz chip -
768MB RAM). This is a real bad problem - a real "turn off" (and I saw others say the same).
If we can send you crash reports I'd be happy to.

Good luck with this - could be a Giant Killer quite frankly -

best

                All in all I'm very content with this program.

I had some problems concernig the constellation of having halfsisters and -brothers... It took me some time to find out how this works.

I also was irritadet that although you defined the relationship between two people as "friends" or "seperated" they still appear as spouses in their maindescription (only the relationshipdescription changed) (This ist at least the case in the german version)

I think it is a pity that the option "name of birth" is obly possible with women and not men, although at least in my area the more and more men decide to take their wifes name after their marriage.

Annother thing is, that you can choose the option "widowed" but this option doesn't generate itself automatically if you define one person as dead.

Thats all I could find until now.

- Previous versions crashed a LOT; this version has crashed once
in the 30 minutes or so I've been using it. I have to save project
after every single data entry, to make sure I don't lose anything.

- no way to link from a person to a tree/person somewhere else
on the web, created by some other program ?

- when press Alt-Tab in Windows XP Home, FTB shows up as program "blank"

Using older versions:

- couldn't register through program/installer; had to go to web site,
register there, then back to program. Then it downloaded a 16 MB update !

- app keeps crashing if I try to delete all children of some person

- app keeps crashing if I have no connection to the internet ?

- no way to put in a partial birth date, such as 13 Nov ???? (error says died before birth)

            <description>
                My initial impressions are that it is very good. Most things are pretty obvious for anyone who is familiar with windows. The download was easy and also the installation. So far I have entered five generations and not run into any problems. The reports are great. <br />
<br />
The one feature that has given me most difficulty is setting a photo as the personal photo. I have managed this but the route isn't obvious. I would suggest that a better solution would be to be able to select the required photo, with a mouse click menu, similar to setting a picture as a desktop background. Alternatively having a radio button against the particular photo in the list of photos that come up with the person's details under photos. Having no programming knowledge that may be easier said than done. <br />
<br />
The help menu is obviously there for future development, however in the meantime a brief tutorial showing the basic functions for a person's details would be nice and speed up things for the first time user. This isn't a place to waste time though because as I said most things are pretty obvious.<br />
<br />
A good job so far. If I find anything that causes me grief I will let you know.
